Winter Solstice

By Amba Gale

Tomorrow,
we turn toward the light.

Today, we go inside
where night can find us.

There, our secret troubles
can heal us,
can give us the gift of life.

This darkness comforts me, holds me, nourishes me,
wraps me in its cloak of peace.

Deep rest.

I let what is dying die,
stay still
until it’s time.
Quietly anticipate the light
and rebirth soon to come.
